Attendance SMORE
Beginning in school year 2026–27, all virtual courses will take daily attendance in compliance with new rules established by SB 569.
- Students will be required to complete a daily check in question in Canvas, only available until 11:59 PM each day school is in session. This assignment can not be submitted late.
- These questions are short and based on what students are currently learning in their courses. Each question should take no more than a few minutes to complete.
- The check in question will not be graded/weighted.
- Students who submit the check in question by 3:45 PM will be marked present for the day; students who submit the question after 3:45 PM but prior to 11:59 PM will have their attendance corrected by the attendance clerk the following day (Per TEA, schools must submit attendance daily prior to close of business).
- Students who do not submit the check in assignment within the required time frame will be marked absent, even if other graded work is submitted that day.
- Absences accrue the same as for in-person courses and may result in loss of credit/truancy.
For 2nd period only:
- 2nd period virtual students must complete their Canvas check-in by 12:30 pm daily. There is no after-hours correction or reconciliation process for 2nd period due to Texas’ daily attendance snapshot.
VLA course attendance carries the same weight as in-person attendance. Per the LISD Student Handbook: to receive credit or a final grade in a class, a student must attend the class at least 90 percent of the days it is offered. Students who are not completing daily attendance may experience consequences including loss of credit, truancy proceedings, and/or removal from VLA courses.
